MP calls for spiking to be made a ‘specific crime’

MP for Gloucester, Richard Graham, put forward a bill to make spiking “a crime that should be punishable in its own right”.

Graham alluded to the recent emergence of spiking by injection, referring to it as “both an new and still mysterious development”.

Despite the “grizzly experiences” faced by those who have been the victim of spiking , it is not a “specific crime”, which means someone cannot be arrested for it alone.

The bill put forward by Graham seeks to change this and make it a specific offence.
