Minister updates the House on Afghanistan

Responding to Andrew Mitchell’s urgent question regarding the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan, Vicky Ford, the under-secretary for the foreign, Commonwealth and development office, admitted that the crisis “remains deeply troubling”.

Ford told the House that the UN had made it’s “largest humanitarian appeal on record” at $4.5 billion, something of which the UK is “strongly supportive”.

The MP for Chelmsford explained that services such as basic food, hospitals, education “remain critical” and that the foreign office “continue to explore solutions”.
