Milling stays firm despite calls for government to label Chinese Uyghur treatment as ‘genocide’

In an urgent question, Conservative MP Nusrat Ghani asked for a statement on the Uyghur genocide following further evidence which suggests that those trying to escape re-education camps are being shot dead.

Multiple MPs, including Iain Duncan Smith urged the government to “call out what it is”, and label the process the “Uyghur genocide”.

Milling explained that she was following the “longstanding policy of successive governments that any judgement relating to genocide is a matter for a competent national or international court” to label something a genocide.
