Government rejects research suggesting post Brexit fall in EU exports

During international trade questions in the House of Commons, under-secretary Mike Freer told MPs that he “doesn’t recognise” the data that suggests UK exports are falling to the EU following Brexit.

This was in response to a question from Labour’s Chris Elmore who told the House that businesses in his constituencies have had to make decisions leading to “jobs moving away from the UK”.

Freer pointed to data from the Office for National Statistics that the UK exports have “continued to grow month on month”. However, he did not specify whether that was to the EU.
