Government ‘committed’ to Scotland remaining in the UK

During Scotland questions, Angela Crawley referred to the words of Scottish Conservatives in the last general election, that “a vote for them is a vote to stop the independence referendum”.

Given that the SNP had been victorious in Scotland, Crawley asked minister Iain Stewart whether the Scottish people had a “right” to vote in the proposed poll in October 2023.

Stewart told the House of Commons that the the government were “committed” to the union and that the Scottish people would want the Scottish and UK governments to be “working together on addressing the issues that matter”.
