Dr Andrew Murrison on delayed discharge

In a ten minute rule bill, Dr Andrew Murrison told the House of the way that his mother in law died in “far from ideal” circumstances.

Murrison’s bill will ensure the transfer of patients “who are medically fit for discharge” from hospitals to a homely setting when there is no more that the hospital can do to support them.

This would help tackle the issue of “bed blocking” as well as “harm caused to patients and the burden on the NHS”.
