Cadbury criticises government for ‘dropping human rights’ as an objective for trading partners

During trade questions, Labour’s Ruth Cadbury criticised the government’s move to “drop human rights” as an objective for trading partners.

This follows reports that the UK are in negotiations with gulf states for a trade deal.

Trade minister Ranil Jayawardena defended this criticism, telling MPs “we decide on future deals based on potential benefits to the UK economy”, but that the UK “will not compromise” on its high labour standards.
