Barclay admits ambulance service pressures ‘compounded by extreme heat’

In a statement to the House of Commons, new health secretary Steve Barclay admitted that ambulance service pressures in the UK have been “compounded by this extreme heat”.

Barclay told MPs of the “additional £150 million of support targeted at the ambulance service”.

Shadow minister Dr Rosena Allin-Khan told the government to “step up and show the urgency that the crisis demands”, telling the House of her experience showing that all is not at hand as suggested by the secretary of state.
