Unite's reaction to EHRC's survey on the gender pay gap in financial services

Unite's joint general secretary, Derek Simpson said:

"Pay discrimination against women in the financial services has been persistent. It is totally unacceptable. Employers with help from unions, the EHRC and the government, must ensure women break through the glass ceiling.

"The government should set an example by ensuring the nationalised LBG and RBS make the eradication of gender bias a priority. Mandatory equality audits are only way of ensuring the pay gap is closed.

"Given the way this male dominated industry has operated over the last few years, gender equality can only benefit the sector."
