NUT: UCAC to strike over pensions

Commenting on the Welsh teaching union’s decision to strike on October 5 over pension changes, Christine Blower, General Secretary of the National Union of Teachers, the largest teachers’ union, said this:

“This is yet another clear message to Government. Teachers will not stand by and see their pensions eroded. Despite there being no evidence to suggest that the Teachers’ Pension Scheme is either unsustainable or unaffordable, the Government is insisting people pay more, work longer and get less.

“Should the Government not listen to the reasonable and clear arguments that are being put forward by the teaching unions, many more will be forced to take industrial action.”
