NUT: Trade unions are "a fundamental building block of a civilised society"

Commenting after the debate on Motion 39, Christine Blower, General Secretary of the National Union of Teachers, the largest teachers? union, said;

?Trade unions ensure that we are all treated fairly and justly at work. They are a fundamental building block of a civilised society. They are particularly vital at a time when we are seeing such vicious attacks on ordinary workers and families, on jobs, living standards and workers? rights.

?The NUT has committed itself to working with the TUC to campaign vigorously against plans to tighten further already draconian anti-union legislation through all available means. At a time of rising unemployment and further brutal cuts to come across the public sector, strong trade unions are essential.?
