MDU makes enhanced online learning resources free to all

The Medical Defence Union (MDU), the UK’s leading medical defence organisation, has made its online learning modules free to all healthcare professionals to provide enhanced support during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The MDU has added to its suite of online learning resources to cover areas such as the new rules on death certificates and cremation forms and health and wellbeing for foundation doctors. Further courses cover intimate examinations and chaperones, local resolution meetings and ethics and law.

In addition, members’ Covid-related queries such as about treating patients with inadequate PPE, advance care planning and off-label medication are being addressed in regular videos and articles at themdu.com/coronavirus.

A doctor who completed an MDU course commented that it was: 'Very good and brings us up-to-date with regards to the Covid-19 changes. Excellent questions which got me thinking and really quite interactive.’

Dr Jerard Ross, MDU medico-legal adviser said:

“The pandemic has turned medical practice on its head and healthcare professionals have responded to the new challenges with tremendous courage and adaptability. To ensure clinicians are kept up to date with the latest medico-legal information, we’ve made our online learning modules which were previously only available to MDU members, free for everyone.

‘Our medico-legal experts are analysing the latest information to ensure frontline staff can access expert advice, at their fingertips. We hope the resources will help healthcare professionals navigate the medico-legal challenges that lie ahead.'

The list of free online learning modules currently available are below and further courses are being added on a regular basis:

Certifying deaths during Covid-19

Health and wellbeing for foundation doctors
