Greenpeace responds to renewables auction funding announcement
Responding to the news that the government is increasing the budget to support the next wave of renewable energy schemes, Dr Doug Parr, policy director at Greenpeace UK, said:
“Having an energy system fit for the twenty-first century, based on cheap renewables, is the best way to ensure our energy independence, stabilise bills, and tackle the climate crisis at the same time. It’s great that we have a government that recognises the need to push further and faster.
“It’s also a significant win for the economy too. This boost to funding for wind and solar projects can and should be used to create new jobs and provide opportunities to local communities across the country and drive innovative new technologies.
“This is an important step towards achieving the government’s target of decarbonising our power network by 2030. But it needs to be followed up with an even bigger auction next year, faster grid connections, and more storage to hold the green power for when it’s needed.”
