Energy talks quote

In reaction to the the government’s talks with energy bosses earlier today, Greenpeace UK’s political campaigner, Ami McCarthy, said:

“Doing nothing is not an option, yet it seems to be the government’s strategy. During a cost-of-living and climate crisis surely the current and potential future Prime Ministers could have come together to deliver something in the national interest?

“There’s an opportunity for the contenders to play Robin Hood by properly taxing the astronomical profits of oil and gas giants and dishing out sufficient cash to help people survive this winter. Making a legally binding commitment to insulate homes so households aren’t hammered by future soaring bills would actually give this Conservative government some dignity. The scale of this crisis means that we need both contenders and the outgoing PM to step up now more than ever.”
