Greenpeace reaction to £4000 energy bills

In reaction to news reports about the prospect of energy bills reaching almost £4000 a year from January, Greenpeace UK’s political campaigner, Ami McCarthy, said:

“Even more wild than the astronomical price energy bills are set to reach in January, is the fact that the government’s known for ages that this was going to happen but done practically nothing to prevent it or support the millions of families that will be forced to freeze this winter. The real solution is reducing our energy use and ending our reliance on gas, which is now more expensive than ever.

“There’s still time before bills go up again to insulate tens of thousands of homes and fit them out with heat pumps. These are cleaner and can be significantly cheaper to run than gas. Why is the government not investing in these sorts of measures? It’s clearly both the short and long term solution to using less energy and reducing bills.”
