Response to ONS labour market data – Centre for London

Responding to the latest ONS labour market data, Nick Bowes, Chief Executive of Centre for London said:

“Londoners are facing a triple threat this autumn as unemployment continues to be the highest in the country, just as the cut to Universal Credit and higher energy price rises begin to bite.

“London and Scotland have seen the biggest fall in payrolled employees since before the pandemic began, showing that for many Londoners “recovery” is still a distant dream.

“Given that the rest of the country relies on London bouncing back, the Chancellor must use the Budget to turbocharge the city’s economy and ensure that Londoners are supported into new jobs, if we are to avoid high unemployment levels becoming entrenched.”
