Scottish independence referendum

The polls don't look good for Alex Salmond. The Scottish first minister has a mountain to climb if he can turn things around and secure Scottish independence when the country goes to the polls in September 2014. But Salmond is capable of pulling off spectacular surprises, as he proved by securing control of a parliament specifically designed to prevent it. Can he manage the ultimate upset?
