Blair memoirs expected to be ‘literary event of the year’

Tony Blair’s forthcoming memoirs are expected to be the literary event of the year, according to bookies placing bets on its sales figures.

Paddy Power is betting on the first week’s sales of the book, with expectations that it will easily outsell Peter Mandelson or Alistair Campbell’s efforts.

Darren Haines, spokesman for Paddy Power, said: “Blair’s book was always going to be the literary event of the year, despite Mandy trying to gate-crash the party with his rush release.

“And the much publicised promise to donate all profits to the British Legion won’t do book sales any harm either.”

The bookies are predicting the memoir will be the political book of the year, with sales over 35,000 available at just 5/2.

Sales of under 25,000 are just 5/1.

Mr Campbell’s best seller sold close to 24,000 copies in its first five days.
