“Most wanted” website launched

Photos of some of Britain’s most serious criminals have been put on a leading crime prevention website under a new scheme launched today.

The web page, set up by the charity Crimestoppers, includes a comprehensive list of all police appeals currently running in the UK as well as pictures of suspects.

It is hoped the site will make it easier for members of the public to anonymously provide the police with vital information on wanted suspects, by filling in a secure online form.

Crimestoppers chief executive Mick Laurie told Today this morning: “We are a charity offering a free service to the police.

“I think at any time there are about 500 good photographs of people who are either serious criminals or very important that the police get hold of them for questioning; so it’s a significant number.”

The site has proved so popular, it has already crashed due to over-demand.
