Early summer recess for MPs

MPs will rise for their summer break on July 21 – a week earlier than expected.

Having abandoned the short two-week September sitting for this year, they will not be returning to the House of Commons until October 10.

This gives MPs a two and a half month long summer break from Parliament, although in practice most will use the time to undertake constituency business.

The September sitting has reportedly been cancelled to allow the fitting of a new security screen in the House.
