Queen: Education is precious gift

The Queen is calling on all countries to do more to ensure that the “gift” of education can be received by everybody.

In her speech marking Commonwealth Day, the British head of state will say that overcoming tragedies and disasters around the world depends on educating children to a sufficient degree so they will not make the same mistakes again.

Her Majesty will say that the answer to successfully ending poverty “involves young people in particular having the chance to develop their talents and their abilities without being held back by inequality”.

The Queen’s message will call on countries to do more to ensure that the “gift” of education can be received by everyone.

Quoting former South African leader Nelson Mandela, the Queen will add: “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”
