The Prime Minister’s North East constituency of Sedgefield has been effectively ring fenced, ahead of the visit of US President George W Bush.

£1 million has been spent on the security operation for today’s visit.

From 20:00 GMT last night until 17:00 GMT today main roads to the County Durham village will be closed off to heavy traffic.

Police warned that any vehicles left parked on “designated” roads would be removed.

Security has been centred on the Dun Cow, the likely venue for Tony Blair and Mr Bush’s pub lunch.

Trimdon Colliery, a nearby village, has also been affected by a 21-hour road closure.

Mr Bush is expected to fly to Blair’s Myrobella House by helicopter.
