The last but one Concorde flies off today to Barbados

The last but one Concorde flight will leave Heathrow today bound for Barbados with 70 invited British Airways staff onboard.

The supersonic jet will be flown to the Caribbean island, where it will be permanently housed at Grantley Adams Airport.

The final flight of Concorde will be made on November 26th, when the chief pilot of the snoop-nosed jet, Mike Bannister, will take the plane from Heathrow, via the Bay of Biscay, to Filton in Bristol, the birthplace of the aircraft.

Supersonic birds will also be taken to the US cities of Seattle and New York as well as Manchester Airport.

The remaining two BA Concordes are set for retirement at Heathrow and the Scotland Museum of Flight in Edinburgh.

On Saturday, fans of the aeroplane had the opportunity to buy parts of Air France’s fleet in a charity auction.

More than 1,300 people packed into three auction rooms for the sale.

At Christie’s auction house in Paris, punters bid nearly £2.5 million for memorabilia.

Lot 1, a speedometer from the flight control panel, valued at under £300 in the catalogue, went for more than £7,500.

And the distinctive needle nose of Concorde went to an anonymous French bidder for nearly £287,490.

Proceeds from the sale went to the Air France Foundation, a charitable organisation for children.
