Bus driver charged with Alicia murder due in court

A bus driver charged with the murder of student Alicia Eborne is due to appear in court today.

Lee Holbrook, 39, from Plymouth, was arrested on Thursday night on suspicion of abduction, and is due to appear at Torbay magistrates court charged with murder.

Alicia, 18, vanished ten days ago after leaving her home in the hamlet of Corntown, Devon. She was due to walk the half a mile to nearby Cornwood, in order to catch a bus to Plymouth.

Her body was discovered yesterday, partially concealed in thick woods at an isolated spot on the edge of Dartmoor, 14 miles from her home.

Detective Chief Superintendent Jim Webster, head of Devon and Cornwall Police CID, said: “At this time our thoughts are with Alicia’s family and friends.

“We would like to express our deep sympathy for her family and to state the distress and concern this has caused to all those who have been hunting for Alicia in the hope she would be found well.”

Alicia’s parents Anthony and Joan were “devastated” by news of her death, police said.
