Fifth man charged with drive-by murder

A fifth man has been charged with murder in connection with the tragic deaths of Charlene Ellis and Letisha Shakespeare.

Cousins Charlene, 18 and Letisha, 17, were gunned down in a drive-by shooting at a new years party outside the Uniseven Studios hair salon in Aston on January 2nd this year.

Two other young women, Charlene’s twin sister Sophie and Cheryl Shaw, were wounded in the incident in Birchfield Road.

The unnamed 21-year-old youth from Ladywell, Birmingham, will appear before magistrates on Friday morning, police confirmed.

The half-brother of Charlene Ellis was charged, alongside four other men, with the double murder.

West Midland’s Police said Marcus Junior Ellis, 23, Michael Gregory, 21, Rodrigo Fernando Simms, 19, and Nathan Antonio Martin, 24, were remanded in custody for a week by Birmingham magistrates.

The case against the four men was transferred to Birmingham Crown Court for a preliminary hearing on November 20.
