Traffic accident in Iraq kills British soldier

A British soldier died in a road traffic accident in southern Iraq today.

The un-named soldier from the Royal Regiment of Wales has become the 53rd fatality among British troops in Iraq, and will remain unnamed until next of kin have been informed.

Nobody else was hurt in the accident, and a spokesman for British forces in Basra commented: ‘There are no indications of hostile action.’

In other incidents today, two American soldiers have been killed, and a Polish soldier became the first casualty from his country in Iraq.
