A mock chemical attack took place on Saturday, involving hundreds of troops and emergency services.

Nearly 900 soldiers, police officers, firefighters and paramedics took part in the virtual “major chemical incident” at Dalton Barracks, near Abingdon, Oxfordshire.

The operation was codenamed Autumn Roebuck 2.

The Territorial Army troops formed part of the new Civil Contingencies Reaction Force (CCRF).

Fire and rescue services from Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Berkshire sealed off the area and began “decontaminating” people.

They liased with police, ambulance services and local council representatives in the exercise.

The exercise came after the simulated terrorist attack on the Tube in London in September.
