Strike beckons at Heathrow

A two-day walkout is set to start at Heathrow on Sunday after pay talks collapsed last night.

Air travellers face disruption this weekend after talks aiming to avert a strike by baggage handlers at Heathrow Airport broke down.

The Transport and General Workers Union (TGWU) had threatened to take industrial action in the row over pay and it appears the union’s hand has been forced

Nine out of 10 workers backed industrial action in the ballot.

Disgruntled staff claim not to have been given a pay increase for a year and a half.

Swissport runs the baggage handling and check-in services for 21 airlines, including Aer Lingus, El Al, Malaysian and Singapore Airlines.

The 48-hour strike is due to start on Sunday.
