UK flag carrier British Airways has cancelled more flights at Heathrow Airport after an unofficial strike yesterday by 250 staff left thousands of travellers with no planes to board.

To the chagrin of BA’s management, disgruntled check-in staff at Terminal One, shortly after 1600 BST yesterday, made their feelings known over new working practices.

And BA has been forced to cancel all flights departing from Heathrow Terminal One before 1000 BST today.

Management were forced to make the announcement as it is uncertain whether ticket and baggage handling staff will turn up for work.

61 outbound flights were cancelled last night to domestic and European destinations and 28 inbound services were stopped. 10,500 passengers were left stranded.

Industrial action also took place at Birmingham and Manchester airports.

Unions say staff are angry at plans to lay off workers during quiet periods following the introduction of a new swipe card entry system, called Automated Time Recording.

BA has set up a special telephone line for passenger information, on 0800 727800.
