Shadow minister to take temporary break from duties in 2022 to welcome baby

Labour MP Liz Kendall is to take a temporary step back from her duties in 2022.

The shadow minister for social care told local media that she and her partner felt “unbelievably lucky” and “eternally grateful to our surrogate for making this possible” as she announced that she would be becoming a mother.

“My partner and I are delighted to announce that we will be having a baby in the new year through surrogacy,” she said.

“It has been a really difficult time getting here, so we feel unbelievably lucky and happier than we ever imagined.

“We will be eternally grateful to our surrogate for making this possible.”

Ms Kendall has served as the MP for Leicester West since 2010.

Her constituency office will remain open during her break.
