Sadiq Khan says government must mandate masks on public transport

Sadiq Khan has released a statement urging the government to mandate face coverings on public transport.

He said: “The worst thing we can do is to lower our guard, be complacent and underestimate the risk these viruses pose to all of us,” and urged eligible Londoners to take the booster vaccine.

He called on the government to “put simple and effective steps, such as mandatory face coverings on public transport, in place to halt the spread of the virus now.”

Transport for London guidance says passengers “must wear a face covering on, in stations, and for the whole of your journey. If you do not, and you are not exempt, you could be refused entry, denied travel or told to leave our stations and services.”
