Rees-Mogg confirms vote on new Covid-19 measures

Jacob Rees-Mogg has confirmed there will be a vote on the government’s fresh Covid-19 measures in England, following pressure from Tory backbenchers.

Earlier this afternoon, the health secretary Sajid Javid set out the government’s plans to make masks mandatory in England in shops, on public transport, and in other settings.

The leader of the House told the House of Commons there will now be a debate tomorrow on the new face-covering and self-isolation mandates.

The news follows growing discontent amongst Conservative ranks over introducing more stringent measures without voting on proposed changes first.

The debate will last for approximately three hours.
