Rayner calls Hancock ‘disgusting’ over ‘How I won the Covid war’ book deal rumours

Deputy Labour leader Angela Rayner has slammed disgraced health secretary Matt Hancock over reports that he will ‘spin’ himself as a hero in an upcoming book on the pandemic.

Ms Rayner said via Twitter: “It is absolutely disgusting that @MattHancock gets to put his spin on events – and his failures – for a bumper pay day before bereaved families get the truth about the government’s failures and mishandling of the pandemic in a public inquiry.”

Her remarks come in response to the Daily Mail’s reports that Hancock, who resigned as health secretary in June after CCTV footage revealed him breaching Covid guidelines with his aide Gina Coladangelo, could receive an advance of up to £100,000 for a ‘How I Won The Covid War’ book, in which he will likely defend his controversial role in the UK’s handling of the pandemic.
