Politicians pay tribute to The Queen as she becomes the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee.

The Queen is the first British monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee. She is spending her day privately on the Sandringham estate, with national celebrations due to be held in June.

Boris Johnson today paid tribute to The Queen’s “many years of service”. He added that he looked “forward to coming together as a country to celebrate her historic reign in the summer”.

Sir Keir Starmer said: “The Queen has been one vital and valued constant in an ever changing world, representing security and stability for our country, during the ups and downs of the last seven decades”. 

Leader of the Liberal Democrats, Sir Ed Davey, said: “Throughout the last 70 years the Queen has embodied what real leadership means. The Queen has demonstrated the true spirit of public service and integrity, values our country needs now more than ever”.

Green Party MP Caroline Lucas tweeted: “The Queen is the first British Monarch to celebrate a #PlatinumJubilee. To do any job for 70 years is an amazing achievement. To do it with such consistent dignity & selflessness is even more remarkable”.
