PM denies breaking Covid rules in wake of leaked quiz photo

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has said he “certainly broke no rules” when quizzed over alleged lockdown Downing Street gatherings last November and December, earlier today.

Addressing journalists while visiting a vaccination clinic in west London, Mr Johnson said: “All that is being looked into. But if I may respectfully say to you… of course, all that must be properly gone into – you’ll be hearing from the Cabinet Secretary about it all.”

He said Cabinet Secretary Simon Case was schedule to report back on the matters “as soon as we reasonably can”, and the investigation might include the quiz Mr Johnson was pictured at on December 15 2020..

The prime minister went on: “But frankly, when I look at what we’re trying to do now, the crucial thing is that people understand the challenge that is posed by Omicron. But also understand that this is a challenge that collectively we can meet.

Adding that: “What I’m focused on, frankly, is the vaccine rollout.”

He also said “the idea that this [Omicron] is somehow a milder version of the virus” is “something we need to set on one side” given the threat posed by its transmission rate.

He also once again stressed that the government could not rule out further Covid restrictions, saying “that we have to watch where the pandemic is going and we take whatever steps are necessary to protect public health.”
