Labour frontbencher backs SNP call for police investigation into ‘cash for honours’

Labour shadow minister Steve Reed has confirmed that his party support SNP MP Pete Wishart’s call for a police investigation into the Conservatives’ alleged ‘cash for honours’ system.

Reed told Sky News this morning that “you shouldn’t be able to buy a seat in the House of Lords”, adding: “there’s a real problem here with sleaze”.

Yesterday Wishart announced via Twitter that he had written to “the Metropolitan Police to investigate the claim that Conservative donors have been rewarded with a place in the House of Lords for making donations worth several million pounds to the Conservative Party.
