Ex minister implies PM’s MPs jobs plan is damp squib

An ex Conservative minister has claimed the prime minister’s second jobs plans are a damp squib.

The erstwhile northern powerhouse minister Jake Berry told BBC Radio 4’s earlier today that “The PM proposals… are that we are going to vote in Parliament today to uphold the existing rules.”

His remarks came after shadow Commons leader Thangham Debbonaire accused the government of attempting to “gut” Labour’s forthcoming motion” on the issue, arguing that the Tories’ plan “says lots of warm words without any concrete action.”

Backbenchers including Sir Geoffrey Clifton-Brown, the 1922 group’s vice chair have expressed some protest however, saying that there is “dissatisfaction on the backbenches and that is why the Prime Minister needs to make it very clear to MPs what he expects from us.”
