Conservative lead dips in three polls

A new poll has put Labour six-points ahead of the Conservatives.

According to the survey carried out by Savanta ComRes and commissioned by the Daily Mail newspaper, 40 per cent of adults would vote Labour if an election were held today.

34 per cent said they would vote Conservative.

Conducted on Thursday, the poll displays a major shift from the Conservatives long-running lead in the polls.

Another poll release by Redfield & Wilton on Wednesday said Labour was two points ahead, while Thursday’s YouGov poll had both parties neck and neck on 35 per cent.

This comes after almost two weeks of public concern over the so-called sleaze scandal that has erupted in the wake of the parliamentary standards’ commissioner recommending the 30 day suspension of Tory MP Owen Paterson from the Commons, and the government’s subsequent attempt to quash it.

This also comes alongside concern regarding the government’s approach to illegal immigration, after the Home Office confirmed on Thursday that around 1,000 migrants crossed the Channel to the UK, a new record high. In a YouGov poll from August, 53% of those who voted Tory in 2019 said immigration was the top issue facing the country.
