Claudia Webbe launches bid to overturn harassment sentence

Claudia Webbe MP has officially begun an attempt to overturn her sentence for harassment.

Earlier this month the MP was handed a 10-week jail term, suspended for two years.

She was found guilty of harassment after threatening to throw acid in the face a friend of her partner.

Webbe’s appeal is scheduled for March 9 2022.

The judge has said her sentence could be increased.

Elected as Labour MP for Leicester East in 2019, Webbe sits as an Independent MP.

In September 2020 she had the Labour whip suspended due to the charge of harassment, and was formally expelled from the party in the wake of her conviction.
