Third day of riots

London is in shock this morning after a third night of rioting flared across the city.

Looters raided shops and torched buildings all across the capital as police were utterly overwhelmed.

Trouble also spread to other major cities including Liverpool, Birmingham, Nottingham and Bristol.

Prime minister David Cameron has returned early from holiday and chaired the government's emergency committee Cobra this morning.

An estimated 400 people have been arrested so far after riots were first triggered by a peaceful protest on Saturday in Tottenham over the fatal shooting of a man by police.
