One golden rule for MPs on Twitter: Don't share the account with your researcher. Most of the tweets in Mark Garnier's dull feed are tweeted by himself in the first person, with all the greyness and predictability you would expect. It's all fairly harmless and forgettable. "Pleasure to visit Foley Park Primary School," he says, for example. "Bright, well dressed pupils supported by intelligent hard working staff." But every so often one comes from a researcher, giving the impression of severe lunacy, as if Garnier had suddenly begun talking about himself in the third person. "Mark expresses concerns over Worcestershire health proposals," he'll tweet one day, triggering images of him alone in his office, mumbling about his various opinions. To his credit, there is a certain Tory tinge to his otherwise monotone messages, which, while not the most glowing of descriptions, at least gives them some personality. Faint praise, certainly, but it's wise to keep low standards when assessing MPs' Twitter profiles.
