Labour: NHS reforms are a dog’s dinner

Shadow health secretary Andy Burnham comments on the Department of Health's latest health and social care bill amendments:

"It is clear that David Cameron and Andrew Lansley are not listening if they think this will resolve the concerns of healthcare professionals.

"These minor amendments do not go to the heart of peoples' concerns and do not change what this bill is – a privatisation plan for our NHS.

"This will only serve to further complicate an already confused bill that has lost all credibility. It is a dog's breakfast, a mess of the government's making.

"The bill is now in total disarray and the call for it to be dropped is gaining momentum. By dropping the bill, the government would save over £1bn next year, give the NHS much-needed stability and allow it to focus on the financial challenge."
