Lord Reid: AV will give fringe voters six votes

Lord Reid, former home secretary and patron of the ‘no’ to AV campaign, said in response to the ‘yes’ campaign’s launch event:

“One person, one vote is the cornerstone of our constitution. To introduce a system that gives some people six votes – particularly those who support fringe and extremist parties like the BNP – is absolutely opposed to everything that we’ve always stood for.

“The alternative vote is unfair and expensive and I urge everyone who believes in one person, one vote, to vote ‘no’ to AV on May 5.”
