May: Cybersecurity a rapidly growing threat

Theresa May, the home secretary, comments to the Today programme on the release of the national security strategy:

“Previously governments had looked at defence in isolation from wider security issues.

“We are facing a very serious threat from international terrorism. We must all be vigilant.

“I’m not going to place [the threats] in any particular order. What’s important is to look at the priorities and how we should be addressing those.

“Cybersecurity is a very [quickly] growing threat. Over 50% of the malicious software threats that have ever been identified were identified in 2009.

“Any [cuts] figures, until the chancellor stands up in parliament on Wednesday, are speculative.”
