A series of opinion polls have hinted at a resurgent Labour performance in the general election.

The polls are being held up as evidence that a hung parliament might be on the cards, and David Cameron and Gordon Bbrown have made friendly overtures to potential king-maker Nick Clegg as a result.

Political parties returned from the Christmas break with the election firmly on their minds on Monday.

Both Labour and the Conservatives began their election campaign, with the Tories revealing a chapter of their draft manifesto and Labour highlighting problems with the Tories' economic policies.
