Glasgow North-East goes to the polls this week

On Thursday Glasgow North East will go to the polls in what could be the last by-election before the general election.

Gordon Brown is rumoured to be considering campaigning at the constituency, in what would be an unprecedented move for the prime minister. His wife has already been campaigning in the area.

Some analysts are concerned about a strong BNP showing, but most of the commentary is focused on Labour candidate Willie Bain's attempt to fight off the threat from the Scottish National party (SNP).

The seat became available when former Speaker Michael Martin gave it up following his sacking in the wake of the expenses scandal.
