Susie Squire of the TaxPayers' Alliance comments on figures obtained by the Conservatives which show that the number of people released overnight from prison has increased from 4,000 in 2006 to 11,500 in 2008:

"Taxpayers want to see prisoners serve their full sentence whether it is at the beginning or at the end of the prison term.

"It is clear that ROR is a policy of copping out of tackling the larger problem of prison overcrowding and that is unacceptable, particularly to the victims of crime."
