Fabricant: Speculation cost a lot of damage

Friday, 14, Nov 2008 12:00

Michael Fabricant, MP for Mid Staffordshire, comments on the POCA decision:

"All this speculation has been immensely damaging to the moral of postmasters and mistresses and post office users. I received hundreds of cards from worried constituents in Lichfield, Burntwood, Yoxall, Alrewas, and Abbots Bromley concerned about this. It has destabilised the industry.

"But I congratulate everyone who campaigned on this issue. People power has won out again.

"After the 6,000 Post Office closures in the last few years, any more would have totally destroyed the network. The government should never have embarked on the tender process in the first place."
