Stephen Roy Williams

Biography

Stephen Williams was re-elected MP for Bristol West in May 2010 with a majority of 11,366 votes.

After attending Mountain Ash Comprehensive, Glamorgan, Stephen Williams read history at Bristol University and has lived and worked in the city since graduating. He has mainly worked as a tax consultant for international business advisory firms including PriceWaterhouseCooper (PWC) and Grant Thornton. He is a member of: Amnesty International, Bristol Civic Society, the Chartered Institute of Taxation, Friends of the Earth, National Trust, Stonewall and the WWF. His interests are: visiting art galleries and historic sites; theatre & cinema; gym, playing pool and swimming; he is a director of the Watershed arts centre.

He was a member of Avon County Council [1993-96] and Bristol City Council [1995-99] council for six years, where he led the Lib Dem group [1995-97].

As an MP his work on local issues includes support for: the Million Faces campaign and the NO2ID campaign.

In 2006 he was appointed Further and Higher Education spokesperson in the Education team; he was previously a member of the Health team [2005-06]. He is a member of the Education and Public Accounts Select Committees.
