Rushanara Ali
Biography
Rushanara Ali was elected Labour MP for Bethnal Green & Bow, succeeding the former Respect MP George Galloway and winning the seat with a majority of 11,574.
Rushanara grew up in Tower Hamlets, having moved to the UK from Bangladesh at the age of seven. Attended Mulberry School, Tower Hamlets College, and Oxford University.
She worked in jobs in Parliament, the Institute for Public Policy Research, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, the Home Office and as an Associate Director of the Young Foundation in Bethnal Green.
She is a Governor of Tower Hamlets College where I studied, a Commissioner for the London Child Poverty Commission because I am passionate about protecting children and families from poverty, and a Trustee of the Paul Hamlyn Foundation.
